Aizawl FC player Michael Lalremruata commits Suicide

Aizwal

Mizoram football fans were in a shock when former Aizawl FC player Michael Lalremruata  committed suicide on Friday night. He was just 24 years old.

The tragic incident has left not only his friends and family in a shock, but the entire football fraternity in Mizoram, as no one had anticipated that that the former attacker could take his life like that.

Michael was a star footballer in Mizoram from a young age. He joined Aizawl FC back in 2011. In 2012, he scored 10 goals for the club in the 2nd Division League, becoming the top scorer in the league.

A sports journalist, who did not wish to be named, said Michael failed to live up to the expectations. “He was soon missing from first eleven of the team,” he said. Some said injuries and subsequent alcohol abuse could be the reason behind that.

In the evening, hours before he took the extreme step, Michael reportedly was chatting with his friend discussing a move to a different club. He apparently even promised to join the practice sessions at that new club soon. But later at night, he was found hanging in his room. There are indications that he was drinking heavily before that.

There is no conclusive reason known for this tragic deed as yet, and Michael’s friends and family as well as fans are still not out of the utter shock of the incident. Mizoram football is mourning the passing of a promising youngster, who at 24 still had a long career ahead of him, and enough chances at his disposal to re-claim his position as a prime footballing talent from the state.
