Guwahati- Assam Government has announced to impose Complete lockdown in entire Guwahati under Kamrup Metro effective from midnight of next Sunday, 28th June, till 12th July. This was announced by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference on Friday.
The areas under Kamrup Metropolitan district will come under lockdown. All the shops including vegetable, grocery, meat shops will remain shut for seven days. Dr. Sarma informed media persons that government will review the situation after seven days.
Inter-district travel restriction has also been imposed during lockdown.
The decision has been taken with the spike of COVID-19 positive cases in Guwahati. Dr.Sarma mentioned that around fifty per cent of Assam’s cases have been reported from Guwahati.
The Assam Government has also decided to impose weekend lockdown in all the towns of Assam excluding Guwahati. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that lockdown will come into force in every Saturday and Sunday in all the areas under town and municipality committees.
With over 6,300 coronavirus cases, Assam is one of the worst-affected states in the northeast. Nine deaths linked to the highly contagious illness have been recorded so far, according to the Union Health Ministry.
