Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi , Keerthi Jalli visited the District Library on Sunday and inspected the entire premises for further development.

The Deputy Commissioner was not happy with the current usage of the premises and instructed the Librarian to immediately replace old books with newer and relevant books in classified format. She inspected the section containing Braille friendly study materials.

Jalli also instructed the Librarian to subscribe news magazines and study materials that would help students prepare for competitive exams.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed Circle Officer (A), Shoma Roy, ALRS, who accompanied her, to submit plans for development of the library into a competitive compact study centre with computer and Wifi facilities.

Jalli requested senior alumni to donate competitive books, once used, to the library like IIT/GATE/CAT/APSC/ SSC/Bank PO etc for usage by other students under the Project Udhyam.

The college students of this small South Assam town who virtually did not have a well-stocked library to concentrate on academics and prepare for competitive exams are happy over the development that a modern ‘compact’ study centre is coming up. “Now, there is an emerging trend where in ‘compact’ study centres are preferred by the students,” said a district administration official privy to the development.

Meanwhile, the administration is mulling to inspect the school libraries too.
