- Assam reported 141 Covid-19 cases on Monday, with 70 from the Kamrup (Metro) district.
GUWAHATI- The Gauhati University authorities has cancel the offline classes and close hostel for five days, after 15 students have tested positive for Covid-19. According to university authorities, hostels, as well as offline classes, will remain closed from December 15 to December 19.
Three hostels have been declared as containment zone by the administration to prevent further spread of the disease.
Beside that a cultural night scheduled for December 14 also cancelled. The event was a talent search competition organised by the Postgraduate Students’ Union of the university.
The Registrar of Gauhati University issued a notification on December 13 saying, “In view of screening being undertaken by the government of Assam in the last 7 days and consequent upon the detection of Covid-19 cases amongst some of the university hostel dwellers, it is notified to all concerned that, as per the directives of the vice-chancellor, Gauhati University, the cultural night on 14-12-2021 of the Talent Search Competitions being organised by the Post Graduate Students’ Union is hereby cancelled.”
The university also decided to close hostels from December 15 to December 19. Of those testing positive for Covid-19, 10 students were from AT-9 hostel.
All classes stand cancelled during this period. Outsiders have been barred from entering the university premises. However, offices will remain open with minimal staffing.
