Red Horns Division of the Indian Army organised ‘Rashtriya Ekta Mini Marathon’ in Nehru Stadium, Guwahati, the capital City of Assam on 21 January 2018, to promote the spirit of Unity and Nationalism, in the run up to Republic Day.
The event was a huge success and witnessed participation by citizens from all walks of life with various age profile. A total of 1130 men, 368 women, 1112 students and 70 senior citizens participated in the event.
The Mini Marathon started from Nehru stadium and went along GS road till Ganeshguri flyover and then back to Nehru stadium. Event was conducted in four categories viz. Men (16 to 50 years) – 10 km, Women (16 to 50 years) – 05 km, Students (08 to 15 years) – 04 km and Seniors (Above 50 years) – 02 km.
The run were flagged off by Major General Arun Kumar Verma, GOC 51 Sub Area, Pabitra Khaund, Dir Sports & Youth Welfare, Govt of Assam, Ranuj Borkotoky, Jt Dir, Sports & Youth Welfare, Govt of Assam & PVSLN Murty, Chief General Manager North East Circle, State Bank of India.
Sports persons of international repute were invited for the gala event, prominent among them was Arjuna Awardee Jayant Talukdar, Archery & Arjuna Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, Athletics.
Prizes included cash prizes and trophies to first three positions in all four categories. Apart from this, medal and certificate was presented to each participant. Truly, the theme of the event, Rashtriya Ekta has inspired the people of the region.
