Assam: Poacher arrested, Arms recovered from Kaziranga

Nagaon police arrested one poacher from Jaklabandha and after his interrogation recovered arms from Kaziranga National Park of Assam.

In the night of 16th February acting on a specific information  regarding possession of illegal weapons by a poacher,  a  team of Nagaon police led by Mohan Lal Meena IPS, ASP (HQ), John Das, APS, DySP DSB along with OC Jakhalabandha PS, SI (UB) Nipu Kalita and staff launched an operation in the area of Najan under Jakhalabandha PS .

During the search operation police team could recover only the butt of a rifle, a magazine and a suppressor from the possession of Robi Ali @Kanu.

During the course of prolonged Interrogation and engaging various sources it was found that the other parts of the arms were kept under a culvert adjoining to Kazironga National Park.

As such Nagaon police launched another search operation in the evening of 18th February and successfully recovered the other parts of the arms (. 303 rifle) along with two rounds of live ammunitions of .303 rifle. In connection with the whole operation one person namely Robi Ali @Kanu, was arrested.

It is pertinent to be mentioned that the weapon was kept in a disassembled manner so that it could be carried easily into the Kazironga National Park
