Assam: Teacher’s Day celebrated with fervour in Hailakandi

At a central function held at Town Hall in Hailakandi, as many as 15 teachers were felicitated for their excellent work in the field of education.

The 58th Teacher’s Day was celebrated with much fervour in schools, colleges and educational institutions across Hailakandi district on Thursday.  Students put on performances, dances, skits and hosted elaborate shows for their beloved teachers.

The students cherished the contribution of teachers in making their life better and shaping their behaviours according to societal prospects. Tributes were paid to the former President of India, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary celebrated as Teacher’s Day across the country.

Classrooms were filled with colours be it balloons or artistic decoration on the chalkboards. Many cultural programs were also organised to mark the occasion. Also, students gave away beautiful greetings cards, colourful flowers and handmade crafts to their teachers as tokens of love and admiration. Teachers, in their speech, motivated the students for a bright and better future.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dam described teachers as builders of society and exhorted upon them to imbibe the qualities of hard work, discipline and leadership among students to enable them to become ideal citizens of the society.

Former Professor of Assam University, Silchar, Dr.Bibhas Deb was the chief guest of the function.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha said the day is celebrated as a tribute to the invaluable contribution made by teachers to the society by imparting knowledge and enlightening and moulding the career of students. “Celebration of Teachers’ Day is a wonderful opportunity especially for all of us to show our gratitude and appreciation to our teachers,” said Jha.

Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, who is in Guwahati to attend a World Bank review meeting on Neer Nirmal Pariyojana, sent greetings and best wishes to teachers through automated Interactive Voice Response System on the occasion. Jalli said it’s time to pay tribute to all the teachers who nurtured and trained us to face the many challenges in life with confidence and commitment. She appealed to the teaching fraternity to extend support to the slew of initiatives taken by the district administration to transform the education firmament in the district.

Two teachers from the district got the State Award for best teachers for 2019.
