Eastern Army Commander Visits Bangladesh  

In order to enhance military cooperation between India and Bangladesh and to deepen better military ties, Lt Gen MM Naravane, GOC-in-C Eastern Command visited Bangladesh.

In order to enhance military cooperation between India and Bangladesh and to deepen better military ties, Lt Gen MM Naravane, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C Eastern Command visited Bangladesh from 18-22 Mar 2019. He commenced his tour on 19 Mar 2019 by paying homage to the martyrs at Dhaka in a solemn ceremony. He also visited Liberation War Museum and Banga bandhu Memorial Museum, later and paid homage.

Lt Gen MM Naravane called on Mrs Riva Ganguly Das, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh at Dhaka on 19 Mar 2019. The Army Cdr attended a Mukti Jodha Scholarship felicitation ceremony as a Guest of Honour and distributed scholarships to the heirs of Mukti Jodhas.

 The Mukti Jodha Scholarship scheme is named as ‘Notun India- Bangladesh Mukti Jodha Sontan Scholarship Scheme’.

 Lt Gen MM Naravane called on the service Chiefs of Bangladesh Armed Forces, Gen Aziz Ahmed, BSP, BGBM, PGBM, BGBMS, psc, G, Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, NBP, OSP, BGGM, PCGM, BCGMS, ndc, psc, Chief of Naval Staff and Air Chief Marshal Massihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, ndu, psc, Chief of Air Staff.

The Gen Officers discussed various aspects of defence cooperation including the positive outcomes of various joint events/ expeditions being undertaken by the militaries of both the nations. Lt Gen MM Naravane also interacted with Lt Gen Sheikh Mamun Khaled, SUP, rcds, psc, PhD, Commandant, National Defence College Bangladesh and Maj Gen Anwarul Momen, SBP, rcds, psc, Commandant, Bangladesh Military Academy and also visited various facilities of Bangladesh Military Academy.

The visit is a positive step towards enhancing the bilateral Defence Cooperation of both the countries.
