Manipur: Assam Rifles celebrates Parakram diwas at Tamenglong

TAMENGLONG–    Remembering the contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 22 Sector Assam Rifles celebrated  PRAKARMA DIWAS  in Tamenglong.

On the occasion of Prakarma Diwas,  Assam Rifles organsied several events including  The events included first ever Walkathon in Tamenglong,  Makru Volleyball tournament in Tousem & Army recruitment awareness session in T Waichong Sub Division of Kangpokpi district, Manipur.

The Walkathon event involved 7.3 km walking by all and culminated with Band Display for the attendees. Patriotic songs filled the environment with enthusiasm.

The Commandant Tamenglong Battalion led the general public of the town to pay floral tributes at a grand function organised at Jadonang Park.

Later the first of its kind Walkathon to promote fit India was flagged off by him. The event saw large number of Civil Adm, police, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, CSOs and Civilians turn up to be part of this unique tribute to great national freedom fighter.

At Azuiram village of Tousem sub division the much anticipated first ever Makru Volleyball tournament started with 20 teams competing for the first  position.  The tournament started with flag hoisting among Vande Matram chants.

PARAKRAM DIWAS

On this day in 1897 Subhas was born in Cuttack in Bengal Presidency ; present day Odisha to Mr Janakinath Bose & Mrs Prabhavati Dutt. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is a youth icon of resurging Indian youth. To commemorate his 125th birth anniversary on 23 Jan, Parakram Diwas is being celebrated all over India. This year the Govt of India through its various events is celebrating first ever Parakram Diwas celebration to commemorate this day. Netaji as he is popularly called by all Indians was a prominent Indian freedom fighter who played a pivotal role in Indian Independence movement.

The final match of the tournament would be played on Republic day. The winning and runners up team shall be rewarded with ₹15000/- and ₹10000/- each. Remembering Netaji at T Waichong the unit organised Army recruitment training session for the local youth.

The commandant speaking on the occasion urged the youth to channelize their energy in up liftment of the society and contribute towards nation building and development.

He also apprised the gathering about Army pre-recruitment training and other youth development efforts by the unit for the local youth.
