Shillong: The Border Security Force ( BSF ) on Monday seized 53 cattle at two different places of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills worth Rs 4.3 lakhs, informed DIG/PRO U.K Nayal, Ftr BSF Meghalaya. He stated that, BSF has been informing civil authorities about the stock of cattle heads kept in the Bordering area for smuggling into Bangladesh.
He stressed that, mutual cooperation for better check in cattle smuggling in the state is required at priority.
Meanwhile the vicious cycle of cross-border cattle smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border is again forming up after COVID-19 lockdown in the state which has snowballed into a major challenge for the BSF.
Cattle smugglers in order to take the cattle head to Bangladesh amid “unabated rain” and darkness often attack the troops with sharp edged weapon, bamboo sticks and by pelting stones.
However, brave and vigilant BSF troops bring the situation under control, taking utmost precaution and restrain.
