Meghalaya: Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated in Shillong

The celebrations also included a solemn ceremony for felicitation of the parents of Late Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, Mahavir Chakra (posthumous) and Late Major David Manlun.

The 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was commemorated in Shillong as an occasion to remember our martyrs, rejoice by celebrating and to renew our resolve to safeguard the honour of our country.

A variety of events were planned with an aim to evoke a feeling of nationalism and patriotism amongst the citizens especially the youth as also to pay homage to the valiant soldiers. The events included motivational talks in schools and colleges, a Five Kilometer ‘Run for Fun’ and a Band and equipment display as a ‘Know Your Army’ exhibition.

The celebrations also included a solemn ceremony for felicitation of the parents of Late Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, Mahavir Chakra (posthumous) and Late Major David Manlun.

Kirti Chakra (posthumous).  A combined wreath laying ceremony was also conducted at the Rhino War Memorial, where in wreaths were laid by Air Marshal RD Mathur, AVSM, VSM, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command and Lieutenant General Tumul Varma, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area.
