Meghalaya:  VYK training on NGO management

Non-government organizations (NGOs) working collectively for societal development are primary delivery units of India today, said Meghalaya SOS Children’s Home director M K Pradhan.

In his inaugural address to three-day training on “NGO management” attended by about 120 NGO representatives, being organized by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra (VYK) in collaboration with All India Hope Line Charitable Welfare Youth Society, at SOS Children’s Home here on Tuesday, he said this training will help to learn policy changes of the Govt to function effectively.

He exhorted all trainees not to be shy but get all their doubts clarified honestly which would be lifelong gains, he said without mincing any words.

VYK programme officer Rajeev Nirmal said that the training aims at strengthening NGO movement and urged all participants not to hesitate to raise questions during technical sessions of resource persons.

Recalling his experience in Faridabad and Bhawna SOS Children’s Homes, he said that the very training would help all participating NGO representatives to improve their working styles.

Observing that the Govt organizations were unable to implement development projects as desired, former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpyee was first to involve NGOs or voluntary organizations in development process, said senior journalist Pradeep Kumar. The process has been bringing desired results across the country, including in Meghalaya as found during interaction with beneficiaries of Meghalaya SOS Children’s Home here now, he said.

“We all strive to earn our livelihood despite different nature of works but always intend betterment in life,” said Ananda Barua, instrumental in developing MSME Cluster Foundation here in 1999. The NGOs play a vital role in development of society; he said and urged all to be job givers, not job seekers.

Terming the training very important, Meghalaya SOS Home assistant director (family strengthening prog) Sudipta Paul earlier exhorted the trainees to learn with sincerity as such trainings are rare.

Highlighting the nitty-gritty of NGO, Barua, as resource person during technical session, said that NGOs and SHGs could spring such revolution in agri-horti, handloom & textile sectors as markets will not be a problem due to globalization.
