Mizoram: BSF arrest two men with drugs worth Rs 7.29 Cr
14 Big yellow packets and 01 small packet containing 1,45,800 numbers of Yaba tablets were recovered. It's estimated value in the market is Rs.7.29 Crores @ Rs 500 per tablet.
AIZAWL- Acting on a specific information on 17th Feb, 20201 90 Bn BSF intercepted one Mahindra Bolero Vehicle at Phaisen Peng tri-junction in Kolasib district and seized huge consignment of drugs, informed BSF sources.
According to the source, during search of the vehicle with the help of local Police team, 14 Big yellow packets and 01 small packet containing 1,45,800 numbers of Yaba tablets were recovered. It’s estimated value in the market is Rs.7.29 Crores @ Rs 500 per tablet.
The occupants of the vehicle namely George Khawlhring (44 years) and Samuel Khawlhring (23 Years) both rare resident of Tuitha Veng, Kolasib, Mizoram could not produce satisfactory reasons for possession of said contraband items.
The Police apprehended the above persons and took under their custody alongwith seized items for taking action as per the law of the land.
Recently on 12th Feb’ 2021, troops of SHQ BSF Aizawl has also seized 23,800 Nos of Methamphetamine / Yaba tablets from general area Ramhlun, South Aizawl.
Meanwhile, the trend of illicit trafficking of drugs in the region has shown significant increase in the recent past.
Yaba tablets and are smuggled into India through porous borders of Indo-Myanmar whereas bulk of it is smuggled to Bangladesh through Myanmar-BD border and also for local consumption in big cities and as Party Drugs.
