A “mass prayers ” is being held in various churches of Mizoram since Saturday night seeking divine intervention to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
The call was given by Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of 15 major churches in the state.
Special prayer programmes were held by some churches on Saturday night while others also held the same programme on Sunday morning and night.
A church leader said that the “mass prayer programmes” were being held to seek divine intervention to ensure that Mizoram is safe from the spread of coronavirus and its global outbreak is fully contained. He added that church members were also instructed to avoid spreading fake news about coronavirus and refrain from hoarding and hiking commodity prices.
On Thursday, the MKHC had appealed to all churches across the state to hold “mass prayer” in their respective local churches to contain the deadly coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Health Principal Director Dr F Lallianhlira said that atleast 135 people have been self-quarantined at their homes till Sunday as a precautionary measure though they did not show symptoms of coronavirus. He also said that the self-quarantined people have travel history to infected countries like Saudi Arabia, Italy, Iran and France.
Meanwhile, so far 8 people who had been put under home quarantine have been discharged after completion of incubation period, he said.
According to Lallianhlira, all the samples sent to Guwahati Medical College have tested negative.
