Sikkim: Victory flame reaches Sukna

GANGTOK- On Dec 1971, the Indian Armed Forces secured a decisive and historic victory over Pakistan Army which led to creation of new Nation – Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest military surrender after Second World War.

As the Nation is celebrating 50 Years of Victory of the 1971 War, Year 2021 is earmarked as the “Swarnim Vijay Varsh”.  The celebrations were started by the Prime Minister himself on 16 December 2020 by instituting four Victory Flames which are being carried in the cardinal directions by respective Commands.

Accordingly the Victory Flame entered the Trishakti Corps Zone on 13 Apr 21 and was received at Sukna Military Station with full military honours.  The Victory Flame was taken to Sukna War Memorial and Wreath Laying was carried out by Serving Personnel and Veterans, paying homage and tribute to all martyrs.

Lieutenant General  Ajai Kumar Singh, General Officer Commanding  Trishakti Corps also laid a wreath and addressed the gathering amply highlighting the saga and valour of veterans who fought with extreme professionalism and grit in this decisive victory.

The event officially marks the commencement of Swarnim Vijay Varsh Celebrations in the Trishakti Corps.  During the stay of Victory flame at Sukna, a large number of commemorative events are planned in the station.

Some of them include, the Victory Flame Escorted Run in all units of the station including Shivmandir Military Station, Felicitation of the Victory Flame by Army Wives Welfare Association, Lecture/ Presentations in various Schools and Barakhana with the troops and Veterans.

Similar activities will be carried out in all the formations of the Corps.
