GUWAHATI- Army Day celebrated across northeast. Different unit of India Army organised Medical Camps, Know your Army Mela and other actvities at different places.

Gajraj corps celebrates Army Day

Gajraj Corps of Indian Army celebrated Army Day at Tezpur in Assam on 15 Jan 2021.  In an impressive solemn ceremony at Tezpur War Memorial, Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC, Gajraj Corps on behalf of all ranks paid homage to those who have made supreme sacrifice and complimented all ranks for their dedication and devotion to duty while being deployed along the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh as well as serving in Counter Insurgency areas of Assam.

It may be recalled that it was on the 15th January in 1949, that General KM Cariappa took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander. Thus, this day is celebrated to recognise this proud moment, when an Indian had assumed command of the Indian Army.

A large number of Officers, JCOs and Jawans of Tezpur Garrison participated in the event and paid homage to the martyrs who had laid down their lives to protect the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.

 Trishakti corps celebrates Army Day 

Trishakti Corps of Indian Army celebrated Army Day at Sukna on 15 Jan 2021.  In an impressive solemn ceremony at Trishakti War memorial, Lieutenant General Ajai Kumar YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding Trishakti Corps on behalf of all ranks paid homage to those who have made supreme sacrifice and complimented all ranks for their dedication and devotion to duty in service to the nation.

 A large number of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans at Sukna participated in the event and paid homage to the martyrs who had laid down their lives to protect the nation’s sovereignty and integrity. To mark the ocassion the Black Cat Division also conducted a Military Band Display at MG Road, Gangtok. Citizens in large numbers witnessed the event.

“Know your Army ” mela held at Daporijo in Arunachal

DAPORIJO-  A ‘Know Your Army’ Mela was org by Indian Army on 15 Jan 2021 at Govt Higher Secondary School, Daporijo as part of the Army Day celebrations. The aim of the Mela was to spread awareness about Armed Forces among civil population & motivate youth to join Indian Armed Forces.

The event included display of wide array of state-of-the-art military weapons and equipment which demonstrated the technological advancement and military might of our country.

 During the event, the students were allowed to get hands-on experience of handling real weapons and it was the main attraction of the event. In addition to the above, Army Band Display was also organised.

This event saw overwhelming participation from students and youth of the adjoining areas.

Medical camp in Baksa district in Assam

 Continuing with its efforts to address the medical issues of local populace, Red Horns Division of Indian Army organized a multi facility medical camp at Chamthebari village in Baksa district of lower Assam on 15 Jan 2021.  A joint team of doctors and dentists from Army and Civil administration provided medical assistance, medicines, anti- Covid masks and sanitizers to 1550 locals in the remote village.

The camp was organized with an aim to assuage the genuine medical problems and woes of the underprivileged which will go a long way in mainstreaming the locals. The efforts of the Army in conduct of the camp with displayed professionalism, keeping in mind the Anti COVID-19 measures was lauded by one and all.
