Assam: BRO Celebrates 72nd I-Day

HQ Additional Director General of BRO in Jalukbari,  celebrated the 72nd I-day with great pomp and show at their picturesque campus at Guwahati, Assam.

HQ Additional Director General of Border Roads Organisation located in BRO Complex in Jalukbari, Guwahati, Assam, celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with great pomp and show at their picturesque campus on Airport Road.

HQ Additional Director General of Border Roads (East) is responsible for directing, coordinating and monitoring the activities of seven North Eastern Projects headed by Chief Engineers responsible for maintenance and construction of roads in the North Eastern states.

Umesh Chandra Mehta, Addl DGBR took over command of Addl DGBR (East) during Apr 2018.Since then all Projects are performing well and lot of improvement works for upliftment of the campus and for the welfare of troops have been carried out.

Recently a Chief Engineers Conference of North Eastern Projects was also organised to review the status of various Road Projects going in North Eastern states. The conference was also attended by DGBR and Planning Officers of BRO and Eastern Command. Some important decisions were taken to expedite the progress of various Projects.

The Independence Day celebration commenced with hoisting of the National Flag by UC Mehta, Addl DGBR (East) in presence of all officers and troops working in HQ Adl DGBR.

About 17 Officers, 130 Jawans including JCOs/ Supervisors and NCOs attended the ceremony. SP Kolipey, Superintending Engineer, Director (Contracts & Resources), Col SD Reuben, Dir (Plg), SK Choubey, Superintending Engineer, Dir (Works), Col IB Singh, Lt Col MB Kumaran, OC Troops, Ajit Kumar, Executive Engineer, Deputy Technical Examiner, MoD, RA Khural, Executive Engineer, SO to ADGBR Parvati Pal Rakshit, Account Officer, etc. were present on the occasion. Casual paid laborers and Children were also present on the occasion.

Flag hoisting was followed by National Anthem and whole environment was vibrant. National Flag was saluted by all including UC Mehta, Addl DGBR. A patriotic and motivational speech was delivered by Addl DGBR on the occasion and called upon all BRO personnel to strive hard towards facilitating nation building.

He conveyed his greetings to all present and their families. He also conveyed the greetings to all the Officers and Jawans working in far flung areas of North Eastern states. He commended the tireless efforts of BRO personnel working in far flung areas and in inclement weather for improving the road network and better connectivity in the NE Region.

He emphasized on the team work and importance of Independence. He also highlighted the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and contribution of Border Roads Organization in development of the country.

He motivated all present to work with full dedication and devotion to improve the image of the organization in particular and for the overall development the country. He also conveyed the message of Director General of Border Roads, Lt Gen Harpal Singh, AVSM, VSM on this auspicious occasion.

The meritorious services of BRO personnel engaged in the development of North Eastern states have been recognised by various authorities. Five Government of India Commendation Certificates, One Vice Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card, 26 DGBR Commendation Cards and 59 ADGBR Commendation Cards have been conferred to the meritorious personnel on Independence Day for their outstanding contribution during the period. AE (Civil) KV Rao, SSS Binu B Chander, JE (E&M) Mohd Islam, Naik SP Patil, Pnr Pankaj Kumar, Safai wala Satpal Singh, Cook Sujan Singh, DES Surinder Pal, Mason Manoharan, Dftry Mohd Abdul Malek and Driver MT Avtar Singh were facilitated by Addl DGBR by conferring ADGBR Commendation Cards to them. ADGBR Commendation Cards of the personnel working in different projects were handed over to representatives of the projects.

After flag hoisting Addl DGBR, had interactions with all BRO personnel, Children and Casual paid labourers. He also distributed sweets to all Children and Casual paid labourers himself. To improve the environment, a tree was planted by Sh UC Mehta, Addl DGBR in the lawn of BRO Complex to commemorate the occasion. Addl DGBR also thanked each one involved in organising such a successful event. He also had interaction with media persons and thanked them for their continued support. The function was wound up with a group photograph and a tea.

The celebration later continued with a Bharakhana Lunch with all personnel and their families in the multipurpose hall of BRO Complex. Photographs of the major activities going on in the jurisdiction of Addl DGBR in North Eastern states were also displayed. Everyone enjoyed the lunch and UC Mehta, Addl DGBR and Mrs Nirupma Mehta, President, BROWWA NE Region, thanked each one involved in organising the function.
