Assam: DC Hailakandi pitches in for financial inclusion of all segments of society

The Hailakandi district administration convened a meeting of District Consultative Committee (DCC) with bankers for review of progress under financial inclusion plan (FIP).

Chairing the meeting with Lead District Manager, branch managers, tea garden managers and other stakeholders at her office conference hall here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli reviewed the status of progress under FIP and the specific issues inhibiting and enabling IT enabled financial inclusion. Issues relating to facilitating ‘enablers’ and removing ‘impeders’ for reaching out to all segments of society for inclusive growth came up for discussions.

Deputy Commissioner Jalli emphasised on scaling up financial literacy efforts to achieve financial inclusion encompassing the weaker and marginalised sections of society and also tea garden workers.

Underscoring the need for improving Credit Deposit Ratio under District Credit Plan, Jalli said the flow of credit to priority sectors and weaker sections of society and monitoring initiatives for ‘Credit Plus’ activities through setting up of Financial Literacy Centres and holding camps for honing skills and capacity building of the entrepreneurs to manage their businesses must be ensured.

Doubling of farmers’ income by 2022, increasing the number of Kishan Credit Cards, disbursement of agriculture loan, assistance under State and Central Governments sponsored schemes, revolving loans through SHG-bank linkage et al were also discussed threadbare.

The meeting also reviewed the status of SVAYEM scheme, Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Mela, Gram Sabha Abhiyan and DAY-NRLM and discussed the slew of steps to be initiated for improved access to these schemes.

The meeting also approved the minutes of the last DCC meeting.

Senior officials from the district administration ADC, EL Fairhiem, CEO, Zilla Parishad, NKSK Singha, SDO (Sadar) Prodip Timung and others took part in the meeting.
