Assam:  DC, Keerthi Jalli unfurls national tricolour in Hailakandi

Addressing the gathering after taking guard of honour, DC Jalli said that the district administration is wholly committed to take the different welfare oriented schemes of the central and state governments

Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli unfurled the national tricolour on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day at her office complex ground Thursday.

Addressing the gathering after taking guard of honour, DC Jalli said that the district administration is wholly committed to take the different welfare oriented schemes of the central and state governments to the grassroots level and sought the cooperation of the people in this regard.

Spelling out the achievements, Jalli said 3,528 dwelling units have been constructed under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana while 84,614 individual household latrines built by the Public Health Engineering department under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.

On the education front, Jalli said that the number of ‘D’ grade schools have come down following academic assessment under Gunotsav and infrastructure development of educational institutions under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan.

The Deputy Commissioner said the administration has banned plastic items to make Hailakandi district plastic free and has embarked on a special plantation of around 300 local flowering trees to make Hailakandi verdant and beautiful.

“Under the Health department, institutional delivery has registered a rise coupled with fall in infant and maternal mortality rates,” said Jalli, adding that under the National Social Assessment Programme of Panchayat and Rural Development department 19,076 senior citizens have derived old age pension.

Jalli said the administration has initiated steps to conserve water through rain water harvesting and has made it mandatory in the building bylaws for provision of rain water harvesting in areas falling under the municipality board and town committee.

The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration has recently launched an ambitious programme, Udyam, a free coaching facility to enable poor meritorious students to crack civil and competitive examinations, for which selection process is on.

Colourful cultural programmes were put up on the occasion. Commendation certificates and mementos were given away to the best march past contingents (professional and non professional), awards to best practice SHGs and VOs, best performing ASHAs, felicitation to progressive farmers, sportspersons, diary farmers, district toppers, winners of speech, essay, quiz and painting competitions as well as distribution of ceiling allotment certificates to landless people by the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other dignitaries.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Jalli accompanied by officials of the district administration paid tribute to the martyrs at the Jatiyo Swahid Smarak. Jalli visited the District Jail and SK Roy Civil Hospital and distributed fruits to the jail inmates and patients.

Patriotic movies were screened for children by E Media Association at Rabindra Bhawan. A friendly football match was also organised to mark the occasion.
