Assam Govt to deport 23 more Rohingya

23 more Rohingya, who are currently staying in Silchar, Goalpara and Tezpur detention camps in Assam, may deport soon.

Assam state government has started process to deport at least 23 more Rohingya Muslims, who are  currently staying in Silchar, Goalpara and Tezpur detention camps in Assam. Previously Assam had deported seven Rohingya Muslims.

According to the Sources,  “Assam police has already finished the verification process about the nationality of these immigrants. Sources also said that these immigrants have also agreed and given consent for their deportation back to their country”.

According to the source, “The Myanmar government has agreed to take them back and also ensured their safety, security. However that they are yet to fix up the date for Rohingyas deportation. But the nodel agencies of both the nation are in touch to each other and the deportation will take place in a phased manner.”

As per an estimate, around 40,000 Rohingya are now residing illegally in India and majority of them are staying in places like Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur and outskirts of Delhi. Most of them came years ago and the Government of India is yet to take a decision on their future deportation.
