Assam: Joint Drills on flood relief by Army & Admin held at Morigaon

The above photographs is not of a real rescue operation of a flood victim. This is a just a flood Relief Preparation for which a Joint Drill in the form of a mock demonstration was conducted in the small township of Dharamtul on the banks of Kopili River in Morigaon district of Assam on Monday.

For this drill, the Kopili River Basin in Morigaon District has chosen because it is chronically flood affected due to seasonal monsoons and rise of water levels. Every year floods lead to loss of precious life and damage  to crops and property.

A joint initiative of Red Horns Division of Army, SDRF and District Administration, Morigaon, the event was conducted on settings akin to near simulated real situation of flood.

The mock drill and demonstration included portrayal of a situation comprising of early warning of heavy rains, assessment of situation, deployment of flood control teams and finally high speed action to rescue the victims from stranded places.

The demonstration was attended by Rana Bora, ADC Morigaon, Aparna Natarajan ASP Morigaon, dignitaries of Army, SDRF, representatives of CAPFs, NCC cadets, School children and locals  of Morigaon.

The spectators were also thrilled to watch the skill of divers in executing their expertise to rescue flood effected people in – situ to include resuscitation and provision of life saving first aid.

Use of improvised aids in floods, formed with household articles like tyre tubes, plastic jerricans / bottles, football / basketball, dry coconuts were shown to educate the  locals to prepare themselves for any eventuality.

 A Medical Camp was also organised during the event for the benefit of the attendees in which  334 people were provided medical consultation and free medicines.
