Kargil Vijay Diwas observed at Tezpur, Guwahati
Tezpur: General Officer Commanding Gajraj Corps Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal layed wreath and. paid tributes to the martyred heroes of the Kargil war who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of the country on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Gajraj War Memorial in Tezpur.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on Jul 26 to commemorate India’s resounding victory over Pakistan in Operation Vijay 1999.
The Kargil war is regarded as a testimony of the Indian Army’s grit and determination, in which the soldiers exhibited dauntless courage, resilience, valour and fought against all odds in inhumane temperatures of the high altitude mountains in Kargil.
Indian Army evicted the entrenched infiltrators from the icy heights and ensured a convincing victory for the country.
Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations was organised by Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam at State War Memorial Dighali Pukhuri, Guwahati on 26 July 20. At Amar Jawan , wreath were laid and floral tributes were payed to all Kargil War martyrs and brave personnel, who 21 years ago, in the best tradition of Indian Armed Forces won the most difficult Kargil War and pushed out the Pak intruders.
The event was held to commemorate the sacrifice of our brave Armed Forces personnel. This programme is conducted every year on 26 July by the Directorate which is attended by all veterans residing in Guwahati, Social organisation, students and people of the city.
However, due to Covid 19 restrictions this year only few staff were present at the monument. Indian Air Force also conducted a Band Display on the occasion to pay tribute to the martyrs and the brave soldiers that was followed by candle lighting at the War Memorial in the evening.
