Assam: Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro dies of Covid-19

GUWAHATI-  Leho Ram Boro, an MLA in Assam belonging to the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), an ally of the BJP in the state government, died on Saturday after testing positive for Covid. He was 63.

The UPPL MLA passed away at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital due to COVID-19 on Saturday morning.

Boro is the second legislator in Assam to die due to reason related to Covid.  Before this, four-time Gossaigaon MLA from BPF, Majendra Narzary died to post COVID-19 complications at GMC&H on Wednesday.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned the MLA’s death.

The Chief Minister instructed Ministers Urkhao Gwra Brahma of the UPPL and Ashok Singhal of the BJP to ensure his last rites with State honours.

Minister for Environment and Forest, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya mourned the death of Tamulpur MLA Leho Ram Boro on Saturday.

In a condolence message, Minister Suklabaidya condoled the death of MLA Boro and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. The Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give them strength and fortitude to bear the great loss.

On Boro’s death, Pramod Boro, who leads the UPPL and is the Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), wrote on Facebook, “His sudden demise is a significant loss to the Tamulpur region and the entire UPPL family. He devoted most of his life to the development and upliftment of the region.”

MLA Urkhao Gwra Brahma, wrote ”  Farewell to my colleague Lehoram Boro, MLA, 58 Tamulpur LAC. He took oath in the assembly on 21st and left us today. RIP”.
