Basant Khetan awarded at North East Festival in New Delhi

The Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Mr Basant Khetan, was recently awarded and felicitated at the North East Festival in New Delhi on 5th November 2017, for his outstanding contribution towards indisputably changing the academic landscape of the North-East region.

 The MSME Entrepreneur of the year, Mr. Khetan received this distinguished recognition from Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, in the presence of Secretary NEC, Mr. Ram Muivah, MD, NEHHDC Mr. Dhiraj Thakuria, MD, NERAMAC Mr. Pankaj Prasad among other esteemed dignitaries.

The establishment of the Assam Kaziranga University has truly benefitted the Upper Assam region, as was proclaimed by the organizer of the North East Festival, Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta. Mr. Khetan received this award as a recognition of his achievement in the field of education, entrepreneurship and promotion of North-East India, and his support of the North East Festival 2017.

The 5th edition of North East Festival ended on 5th November, 2017 at IGNCA, Janpath, New Delhi. The festival, which was attended by lakhs of people, received extensive coverage and headlines in national media, highlighting the North East’s crafts, food, music, culture and issues of the region.

More than 200 entrepreneurs of the region participated in the festival, and showcased the vibrant and brilliant culture of the North East, including food, craft, fashion, traditional dance forms and sports. Traditional art and entertainment forms of the North East, such as Ankia-naats and Bhaona were also highlighted at the event.

Top musicians of the region such as Zubeen, Angaraag Papon Mahanta, Alobo Naga, Borkung Hrangkhl, GATC, Lucid Recess and many more performed at the festival. Other highly popular events at the Festival were the Quiz competition, the Football Tournament and Rock Music competition held amongst the different colleges of Delhi, North East clubs and Bands, all of which got a large response.

The Festival celebrated the success of North East talent in making a mark across the globe. During the festival, several outstanding personalities from the region were also felicitated, which included iconic singer Zubeen Garg for revolutionising the music and cinema industry of Assam, Indian mountaineer and world-record holder Anshu Jamsenpa of Arunachal Pradesh and Bollywood fashion designer Asa Kazingmei from Manipur.
