Assam: BPF Claims Mandate, Hagrama Mohilary to Take Oath as BTC Chief on October 3
BPF announced plans to establish a memorial park dedicated to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who was a prominent figure in the region's cultural landscape.

GUWAHATI/KOKRAJHAR : The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has formally staked its claim to form the next Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam following a decisive victory in the recent elections.
The party secured 28 out of the 40 seats, surpassing the majority mark of 21 seats required to form the council .
On Sunday, a delegation led by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary met with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati.

During the meeting, Mohilary, who was unanimously elected by the party’s policy-making body to head the next council, invited the Governor to attend the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for October 3 in Kokrajhar.
Governor Acharya has assured his presence at the event The BPF’s victory marks a significant political shift in the Bodoland Territorial Region, which comprises the districts of Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang, Udalguri, and Tamulpur.

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), which had been in power in the outgoing council, secured 7 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win 5 seats.
In a gesture of cultural tribute, the BPF announced plans to establish a memorial park dedicated to the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who was a prominent figure in the region’s cultural landscape. The memorial aims to honor his contributions to Assamese music and culture.
The swearing-in ceremony on October 3 will mark the beginning of Hagrama Mohilary’s fourth term as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BTC.
