Assam: Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi Walks Out of Opposition Meet Amid Heated Exchange
The incident has sparked widespread speculation about the unity of opposition forces in Assam ahead of crucial political developments.

GUWAHATI- Tensions flared at an opposition meeting held at Atithya Resort in Sonapur, Assam, on Saturday, resulting in a walkout by Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi. The meeting, convened by noted intellectual Dr. Hiren Gohain to strategize unity among opposition parties, descended into chaos following a reported verbal altercation between Bordoloi and Sivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi.
According to sources present at the meeting, the situation escalated when Akhil Gogoi, leader of the Raijor Dal, allegedly lost his temper and hurled strong words at the Congress, calling it “fascist” and “gaddar” (traitor).

While some attendees attempted to downplay the episode as a “minor disagreement,” others expressed concern over its potential to weaken collective efforts against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

Bordoloi, a prominent figure in Assam politics and a vocal critic of the BJP, has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
However, his abrupt exit has fueled discussions about the Congress’s role within the broader opposition framework.
Akhil Gogoi, known for his fiery rhetoric and grassroots activism, also refrained from immediate comment, leaving the situation open to interpretation.
The meeting was intended to foster collaboration among opposition parties, including the Congress, Raijor Dal, and others, to address pressing regional issues and counter the BJP’s dominance.
However, Saturday’s events have cast a shadow over these efforts, with political observers noting that such infighting could undermine their collective strength.
The fallout from the walkout remains unclear, with party leaders expected to address the incident in the coming days. The episode underscores the challenges of uniting diverse political factions in Assam, even as the opposition seeks to present a formidable challenge to the ruling coalition.
Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
