Hailakandi Police of Assam have started investigation into the rape charges against the MLA of Algapur, Nijam Uddin Choudhury and another person.
The officer in charge of Hailakandi sadar police station and investigating officer of the case, Surajit Choudhury informed that case has been registered and investigation is on.
Meanwhile AIUDF MLA Choudhury refuted the allegation and said that it is totally baseless and ‘conspiracy’ against him. He said that the lady came to him along with her husband to settle their family problem and he has no connection with the lady.
It must be mentioned here that a case (case no 592/18) was registered at Hailakandi sadar police station against Algapur MLA, Nijam Uddin Choudhury and another person Sahid Ahmed Laskar (husband of complainant lady) under Section 376, 342 and 35 of IPC for allegedly molesting a housewife at Hailakandi circuit house.

Choudhury won the Algapur seat in 2016 on an AIUDF ticket. According to police, the housewife has complained that the MLA had allegedly ‘raped’ her at Hailakandi circuit house on May 19 first with the help of her husband and later at her house on May 23 and later he (MLA) tried to bring her to Guwahati and had to give up the plan after she threatened to commit suicide.
According to the lady’s allegation, she was not allowed to go out from home by her husband Laskar.
She escaped from the house on Friday and filled an FIR and police said that she could not submit FIR in time as she was virtually under house arrest, police said quoting the lady.
The case has created heavy sensation in Hailakandi district.
