GUWAHATI– Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his administration’s unrelenting stance against cow smuggling in a statement today, underscoring significant progress in cracking down on the illegal practice.
Speaking on the issue, Sarma revealed that his government has arrested 4,300 cow smugglers since taking office, a stark contrast to the 77 apprehended under the previous administration.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state police have dismantled a decades-old smuggling network, with some smugglers meeting fatal ends during encounters.
“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy, and we will not back down,” Sarma asserted, accusing the opposition of pressuring him to soften his approach. “I will never compromise on this,” he added, framing the crackdown as a matter of principle and public safety.
