Assam: IAF Conducts Daring Rescue of 14 Individuals Stranded in Swollen Bomjir River
Continuous heavy rainfall had caused the Bomjir River to overflow, leaving 13 residents from Assam's Tinsukia district and one from Arunachal Pradesh isolated on a small patch of high ground.

Guwahati/Itanagar— In a swift and courageous operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully rescued 14 individuals stranded in the swollen Bomjir River along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The rescue mission was initiated early Sunday morning following a request from Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapneel Paul. Continuous heavy rainfall had caused the Bomjir River to overflow, leaving 13 residents from Assam’s Tinsukia district and one from Arunachal Pradesh isolated on a small patch of high ground.

An IAF Mi-17 helicopter, launched from Air Force Station Mohanbari, executed the operation under challenging weather and terrain conditions. The mission was overseen on-site by Sadiya Revenue Circle Officer Jaydeep Rajak.
All 14 individuals were safely airlifted and have since returned to their respective homes. Commissioner Paul expressed gratitude to the IAF for their timely intervention, stating that their prompt action ensured the safe evacuation of all those at risk.

The region has been experiencing intense rainfall, with areas like Silchar recording up to 42 cm. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged residents in low-lying and riverbank areas to stay alert and follow local safety advisories.
In related incidents, landslides triggered by the torrential rains have resulted in fatalities in Arunachal Pradesh, with the state government announcing ex gratia payments to the families of the deceased.
