Assam: Passenger Assaulted on IndiGo Flight, Found Safe After Family’s Desperate Search

SILCHAR– Hussain Ahmed Mazumdar, from Cachar, Assam, who went missing after a panic attack and assault on an IndiGo flight and was later traced traveling by train. According to information available, that after missing his flight, Hussain had no choice but to continue his journey by train.

Hussain, a resident of Latimara village in Silchar, Assam, reportedly suffered a panic attack during taxiing at Mumbai Airport. A co-passenger slapped him without provocation, an act caught on video that quickly went viral, sparking outrage.

Both Hussain and the assailant were offloaded at Kolkata airport and handed over to security authorities. According to reports, the situation was resolved amicably between the two parties at the airport, but Hussain missed his connecting flight to Silchar.
His family, expecting him at Silchar’s Kumbhirgram Airport on August 1, grew worried when he did not arrive, and his phone was unreachable, believed to have been left in Mumbai. The family filed a missing person complaint at Udharbond Police Station and an FIR at Katigorah Police Station, demanding answers from IndiGo about the assault and the lack of communication regarding Hasnul’s whereabouts.
His wife criticized the airline for not providing support, and his father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, who is battling cancer, expressed deep distress.

After the incident, Hussain’s phone became unreachable, and he failed to board his connecting flight to Silchar, where his anxious family was waiting. When he didn’t arrive by 1 PM, panic gripped his parents, siblings, and relatives, who began urgently contacting authorities, airports, and the Kolkata Police, while also turning to social media for help.

After intensive follow-up, the family was finally informed that Hussain was safe and currently receiving medical care in Kolkata. His family members immediately traveled to ensure his safety and well-being.

The incident has reignited serious concerns about passenger safety, airline responsibility, and mental health management in-flight.

Activists and netizens are calling for, a comprehensive investigation, accountability of the attacker, Clearer protocols for handling passengers in mental distress and better communication between airlines, authorities, and families in post-incident scenarios

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of human moments in transit — and the systems that must be in place to protect them.
