Assam: Swachh Survekshan Grameen Launched in Bongaigaon
Swachh Bharat Mission is not just a Government program but it also aims at bringing about long term behavioural change among the masses.

Bongaigaon District Public Health Engineering Department launched the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen ‘SSG 2019’ at the Birjhora Public Library on 9th September 2019. The campaign was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon district Adil Khan.
Appreciating the efforts of the Public Health Engineering Department, DC Adil Khan opined that the survey would be a positive step towards mass sensitization of the people in the district about sanitation. He also said that the survey would rank the villages based on key quantitative and qualitative Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) parameters like availability and usage of toilet and sanitary awareness in the villages.
By inviting people to participate in the drive, the Swachhta Abhiyan has turned into a Mass Movement led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal. Khan opined that Swachh Bharat Mission is not just a Government program but it also aims at bringing about long term behavioural change among the masses. The Panchayati Raj Institution(PRI) members were also urged by the Deputy Commissioner to take the message to the masses.
Khan further added that it is not only the responsibility of the officials to make the district clean but the masses should also take adequate responsibility to take forward the mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Deputy Commissioner believed that with the involvement of people Bongaigaon District can definitely achieve the goal of the cleanest District.
.Manash Buragohain, Executive Engineer of Bongaigaon PHE department, said that the rural community would be engaged in the improvement of their sanitation status through an intensive and holistic campaign.
He added that the campaign had been taken to the next level this year by focusing on Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) and plastic waste management. He urged the Non Governmental Organisations(NGOs) and contractors to complete the work of constructing Individual House Hold Latrines(IHHL) on time.
The inaugural programme was attended by Bijoy Singha, President, Bongaigaon Zilla Parishad, Masum Yusuf Ahmend, Assistant Commissioner, Bongaigaon , Saadullah Khan, Inspector of School , PRI members and other dignitaries.
