Tobacco free campaign, World AIDS Day observed in educational institutions in Hailakandi district of Assam.

Pledge for life: Tobacco free youth campaign and World AIDS Day have been organised in about 150 Government schools, provincialised, madrassas and private schools across Hailakandi district on Saturday.
The events were observed in Lakshirbond HS Madrassa. Principal SA Laskar and a few other teachers discussed the importance of the events. Awareness on AIDS and HIV was also generated. A pledge for tobacco free campaign was also administered, making the students aware of smoking’s bad consequences.
A pledge was also administered to the students by the teachers and principal of Indra Kumari Girls’ HS School for shunning tobacco for a long, healthy and vigorous life.
The events were also held at HCMM Girls’ High School where awareness was created among the students on the scourge of AIDS and HIV and harmful effects of tobacco on health.
At JCHS School, Kalinagar the events were organized in a befitting manner. Highlighting the significance of tobacco free campaign, the speakers exhorted the students to stay away from smoking, and tobacco in general as it posed a grave health hazard resulting in a lot of deadly diseases, including many cancers. Students also brought out placards on non-consumption of smoking and other tobacco related products. Discussion was held on HIV and AIDS and the need to do away with the stigma associated with it.
At GCRBM High School, Katlicherra, the events were observed with varied programmes. Headmaster NK Nath and Assistant Teacher Nihar Ranjan Purkayastha exhorted the students to avoid smoking and other forms of tobacco products for a healthy life. They also spoke at length on the causes of HIV and AIDS and made the students aware of the dreaded diseases. This year’s AIDS Day theme is ‘Know Your Status’ to create awareness about the importance of HIV testing.
The events were also observed at Kalibari High School, Gharmura, Tribal High School, SAM High School, Boalipar Senior Madrassa, Panchgram Town High School, SK Deb High School, among other institutions.
