GUNPOINT ROBBERY: Rs 12 Cr Gold Looted After Employees Tied Up in Assam’s Barpeta Road
Five armed assailants allegedly looted gold and diamond ornaments from a Senco Gold & Diamonds showroom in Barpeta Road, triggering a major police operation and security concerns.

GUWAHATI/ BARPETA ROAD- A daring daylight robbery at a Senco Gold & Diamonds showroom in Barpeta Road, Assam, has triggered widespread concern after an armed gang allegedly looted gold and diamond ornaments worth several crores during business hours on Friday.
According to reports, five assailants entered the jewellery outlet between approximately 1 pm and 2 pm, reportedly armed with pistols. The suspects allegedly threatened employees and customers before tying up staff members to prevent resistance. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers took control of the premises swiftly, carrying out the operation in a coordinated manner.

The robbers are believed to have vandalised or damaged CCTV cameras inside the store in an apparent attempt to hinder identification efforts. They then collected a substantial quantity of gold ornaments and diamond jewellery before fleeing the scene. Preliminary descriptions suggest that the entire incident lasted around 30 minutes.
The estimated value of the stolen items remains unclear, with initial reports varying between approximately ₹12 crore and about ₹4 crore. Police officials have stated that the exact loss will be determined only after a detailed inventory verification and official assessment, as current figures are preliminary.

Security forces reached the spot soon after being alerted and launched an extensive manhunt. Authorities sealed surrounding areas, intensified vehicle checks at key exit points and began reviewing available surveillance footage. Investigators are also recording statements from eyewitnesses and staff members as part of the ongoing probe.
The bold heist, carried out in a busy commercial area, has unsettled traders and residents, raising fresh concerns over security arrangements for high-value retail outlets. Police have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to identify and apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen property.
While some social media posts have claimed arrests in connection with the robbery, officials have not issued full confirmation, and the situation remains under investigation. Authorities said further details would emerge as the probe progresses.
