Jairam said it was strange and unprecedented that the Prime Minister had not visited the state even though Manipur had been burning for the last 18 months, and the ‘double engine’ government had failed and derailed.

He demanded the Home Minister’s resignation, saying the Prime Minister had handed over Manipur to him (Shah) and outsourced the state’s affairs to the Home Ministry.

“Why Union Home Minister is not taking note of the failures of Manipur CM. Why is he trying to protect the CM? Everybody knows about his failures. Their MLAs are even ready to resign. Why is HM protecting him?” he asked while referring to the Supreme Court’s observations earlier that law and order had collapsed in the state.

Ramesh observed that if the BJP, PM and HM want to fight honestly against the drug mafia in Manipur they must take action on the pending cases in the courts. “Use NIA and other investigating agencies with you”, he told the government, asking, “why are you not taking action? Who is protecting whom and who is benefitting whom?”
