Sikkim Chief Minister meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discusses development priorities and invites him to the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

NEW DELHI / GANGTOK –  The Chief Minister of Sikkim met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a courtesy call in New Delhi, where the two leaders held discussions on the state’s developmental priorities and future growth prospects.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister apprised the Prime Minister of key areas requiring attention, including infrastructure development, sustainable growth, and welfare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of the Himalayan state.

The interaction also included discussions on the reopening of the Nathu La Pass trade route, which is scheduled to resume from June 2026. Officials indicated that the move is expected to boost local trade and benefit communities engaged in cross-border commerce.

The Chief Minister extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee of Statehood. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation, according to official statements.

The meeting also served as an occasion to express appreciation for continued support from the central government towards the state’s development. The Chief Minister acknowledged ongoing assistance and policy backing aimed at strengthening infrastructure and economic growth in the region.

The interaction comes at a time when northeastern and Himalayan states are seeking enhanced central support for connectivity, tourism, and sustainable development initiatives, given their strategic and ecological significance.
