Lachit Borphukan’s Legacy to Resonate in Rajasthan: Statues Proposed in Jaipur and Kota, Curriculum Inclusion Planned

The initiative aims to ensure his story resonates beyond Assam and inspires young minds across India.

GUWAHATI- In a significant step toward fostering national unity and honoring shared heritage, the Rajasthan Foundation (Assam & Northeast Chapter) has proposed installing statues of Assam’s legendary warrior Lachit Borphukan in two of Rajasthan’s key cities: Jaipur and Kota, informed Ratan Sharma, of Rajasthan Foundation – Assam & Northeast Chapter.

Lachit Borphukan, known for his fearless defense of Assam against the Mughal Empire in the 17th century, is a symbol of bravery and patriotism. The initiative aims to ensure his story resonates beyond Assam and inspires young minds across India.

Jaipur, Rajasthan’s cultural and administrative heart, and Kota, India’s renowned education hub, were chosen as symbolic sites. The statues will be realized through collective efforts and public participation from the Assamese community, transforming them into powerful emblems of unity, said Mr Ratan Sharma.

Sarma also informed that “ Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar, has extended wholehearted support to the initiative. He assured that a formal proposal will soon be submitted to the Central Government to include Lachit Borphukan’s legacy in Rajasthan’s school textbooks, enabling future generations to learn about his unparalleled courage and contributions”.

“This is more than installing a statue or updating textbooks; it’s about strengthening India’s unity through mutual respect for our diverse histories,” the Foundation said in a statement.

The proposal has also sought support from the Assam Government to reinforce this joint endeavor. If realized, it will mark a milestone in celebrating the shared heritage of India’s northeastern and western regions, inspiring students and citizens alike to cherish the values of courage, sacrifice, and unity that Lachit Borphukan embodied.
