Assam: 48th Vijay Diwas celebrated across the nation

VijayDiwas is celebrated on 16 December every year all across the Nation to commemorate the glorious victory of Indian Armed Forces over the Pakistan Armed Forces in the Indo-Pak War 1971. The successful culmination of the operations resulted in birth of a new Nation – Bangladesh, out of East Pakistan. Though the event is important for the whole Nation, however it holds a special significance for 101 Area because 101 Area actually took part in the conduct of operations in East Pakistan and has the unique distinction of being the FIRST Indian Formation to enter Dacca on 16 Dec 71.
VIJAY DIWAS CELEBRATED AT HQ 101 AREA SHILLONG
48th Vijay Diwas was celebrated in Shillong by 101 Area on 16 Dec 19. Lieutenant General Tumul Varma, Sena Medal, Vishist Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area laid wreath at the Rhino Prerna Stha (War Memorial) at Shillong to pay homage to the bravest, who made the supreme sacrifice, in the line of duty and in the highest military traditions of the country.
SPEAR CORPS CELEBRATES VIJAY DIWAS
Rangapahar Military Station celebrated ‘Vijay Diwas’ on 16 December to commemorate the India’s historical victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. The day started with Lt Gen Rajeev Sirohi, AVSM, VSM , Officers and troops paying rich tributes at the war memorial for the Martyrs who laid down their lives during the war. They further took a pledge to protect the country at all costs from external aggressions and internal threats. Special screening of a movie on the 1971 War was also organised in the Manekshaw auditorium for the Veterans, Civil dignitaries and Army personnel who witnessed the courage of the brave soldiers and their selfless sacrifices. The Veterans were then invited to recount their experiences of the war, whose stories of valour, courage and bravery against all odds were truly inspirational. GOC, Spear Corps, then felicitated the Veterans and expressed his gratitude for their contribution in India’s ‘Finest Hour’. The Veterans also interacted with the troops motivating them to make every sacrifice to keep the country safe.
GAJRAJ CORPS CELEBRATES VIJAY DIWAS
Tezpur based Gajraj Corps today celebrated the VIJAY DIWAS to commemorate the decisive victory the Indian Army had attained 48 yrs back on 16 Dec over Pakistan and which resulted in the birth of a new nation ie Bangladesh..To mark the occasion, in a solemn function held in the Corps Headquarters, the GOC Lt Gen Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM paid homage to the fallen bravehearts and laid the wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of all ranks of the Corps. The event was attended by the Officers, JCO’s and Other Ranks of the Corps Headquarter and the Veteran fraternity. In his address the GOC recollected the brave deeds of our very worthy predecessors and exhorted all present to emulate their brave deeds.
