Assam: CID Hands Over Zubeen Garg’s Autopsy Report to Wife as Probe Intensifies

A CID Special Investigation Team officer personally delivered the report to Garima at her residence in Kahlipara.

GUWAHATI-  In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) handed over the second autopsy report to his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, on Saturday.

The post-mortem was conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital following the repatriation of Garg’s body from Singapore. A CID Special Investigation Team officer personally delivered the report to Garima at her residence in Kahlipara.

Earlier, Singapore authorities had shared the initial autopsy report, which cited drowning as the cause of death. That report was provided to Garima last Thursday.

Zubeen Garg, 52, tragically passed away on September 19 while swimming off Sentosa Island during a trip for the North East India Festival. Despite the initial findings, suspicions of foul play have persisted, prompting a deeper probe.

On the same day, Garima and Garg’s younger sister, Dr. Palmi Borthakur, recorded formal statements with the SIT. Garima expressed faith in the legal process, stating, “In the case of Zubeen Garg, nothing will be neglected. He must get justice,” while urging that any guilty parties face the “ultimate punishment.”

The probe has now escalated, and the festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, has been arrested.  All are in 14-day CID custody as investigators scrutinize inconsistencies and potential negligence during the yacht outing.

A judicial commission, led by Gauhati High Court Justice Soumitra Saikia, is overseeing the CID investigation. Possible involvement from the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department is also being explored over alleged financial irregularities linked to Mahanta.

Over 55 FIRs have been filed, reflecting the public’s demand for transparency. Viscera samples from the GMCH autopsy have been sent to Delhi to rule out poisoning or other anomalies. As the SIT prepares potential overseas inquiries under Singapore’s Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, Garima has appealed for public cooperation in uncovering the truth behind her husband’s final moments.

Zubeen Garg’s death has left Assam in mourning, and the investigation continues to unfold with nationwide attention. We will keep you updated with every development as the probe progresses.
