Assam: DC institutes enquiry into irregularities in South Hailakandi Block

in the wake of reports in a section of the media, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi district of Assam, Adil Khan instituted an enquiry into the scams and irregularities in South Hailakandi Block.
Heading the investigation, District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar inspected the sites and also the block office on Sunday. He met members of several organizations, who submitted memoranda to him alleging large scale irregularities in implementation of government schemes, including MGNREGA. Laskar told them that the district administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption and would go to the bottom to unearth the anomalies and punish those found guilty.
Laskar also met the Block Development Officer and the Accountant and took an account of the status of work. Laskar seized some documents during his visit to the Block Development Office.
The District Development Commissioner submitted a report to the Deputy Commissioner today in which he has pointed out that government guidelines were flouted resulting in irregularities and anomalies in some schemes and projects.
Meanwhile, Khan has directed the CEO, Zila Parishad cum PD, DRDA, NKSK Singha to closely monitor and supervise the working of block offices and ensure adherence to standards, rules and guidelines.
