Assam: Mock drill conducted in 100 schools in Hailakandi district

A mega mock drill to check preparedness of earthquake was conducted in 100 schools across Hailakandi district of Assam on Saturday.
As part of Great Assam School Shakeout programme commemorating the 1950 great Assam earthquake, the event was held in an organised way here by the District Disaster Management Authority, Fire and Emergency Services Station, Education department and volunteers at 11 am simultaneously in 100 schools across the district.
Circle Officer Hailakandi and Lala, Tridip Roy and District Project Officer, District Disaster Management Authority, Rupjoy Maibangsa inspected earthquake mock drill exercise by the students at Government VMHS School in Hailakandi town. Station Officer, Sanjay Singha demonstrated various equipment at the exhibition hall. The programme was well appreciated by the principal of Government VMHS School and members of the public present in the event.

Maibangsa said the drill has been organised to give a thrust to school safety initiative in the event of any calamity.
Mock drill exercise depicting ’emergency assembly point’ for safe evacuation in an emergency was conducted by resource persons as part of school safety measures.
Assam falls in high seismic zone and therefore, the region is highly vulnerable to earthquakes, Maibangsa said while adding that the idea of the entire mock exercise was to check preparedness at various levels to deal with a natural disaster like earthquake.
