Assam: PM Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Haibargaon Railway Station on May 22 under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Located at the heart of Nagaon, Haibargaon Station plays a pivotal role in regional mobility, serving around 1,200 passengers daily.

GUWAHATI-  In a landmark step toward modernizing India’s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 redeveloped railway stations across the country on May 22, 2025, as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

Among them is Haibargaon Railway Station in Assam, a heritage station originally built in 1887, now transformed into a state-of-the-art transit hub.

Located at the heart of Nagaon, Haibargaon Station plays a pivotal role in regional mobility, serving around 1,200 passengers daily. Its redevelopment under ABSS is not just an aesthetic overhaul but a holistic modernization addressing key regional challenges such as flood resilience and accessibility.

The revamped station now boasts:

  • A grand entrance porch and a newly built station building
  • A spacious concourse, modern waiting halls, and modular, Divyangjan-friendly toilets
  • A refreshment room with baby feeding areas
  • Resurfaced platforms, structured parking zones, and pedestrian pathways
  • Universal access features like tactile tiles, ramps, and accessible ticket counters
  • High-mast lighting, enhanced public address systems, and green landscaping
  • Murals and a cultural statue showcasing Assam’s rich heritage

In addition to improving the passenger experience, the upgraded station is expected to boost tourism and local commerce. Located near tourist hotspots like Kaziranga National Park, Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, and Bordowa Than, Haibargaon is set to become a vital node in Northeast India’s cultural and ecological tourism circuit.

Further supporting local entrepreneurship, the station includes kiosks under the ‘One Station One Product’ initiative, enabling regional artisans and small businesses to showcase their products.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), responsible for the redevelopment, sees this transformation as a crucial milestone in linking Assam’s historical legacy with its future aspirations for inclusive development and world-class connectivity.
