Assam: Rahul Gandhi Pays Tribute to Zubeen Garg, Calls Him ‘The Kanchanjungha of Assam’

GUWAHATI-  In a deeply emotional visit to Assam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg, describing him as “the Kanchanjungha of Assam” — a metaphor symbolizing height, purity, and enduring strength.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Guwahati early this morning and headed straight to Zubeen Garg’s memorial site, where he offered floral tributes and observed a moment of silence. Later, he met the singer’s grieving family and expressed his heartfelt condolences.

Speaking to reporters after the tribute, Rahul Gandhi said:

“Zubeen Garg is the soul of Assam. He is like that mountain which forever stands tall, unwavering, and whose snow never melts. Zubeen Garg is Assam’s Kanchanjungha.”

His statement, rich with symbolism, struck an emotional chord across Assam. Gandhi explained that just as Mount Kanchanjungha represents dignity, beauty, and resilience — so too did Zubeen Garg embody the spirit of Assam through his humility, depth, and timeless music.

“Zubeen’s passing is not just the loss of an artist,” Gandhi said, “it is the loss of a piece of Assam’s soul. His songs, his words, and his spirit will continue to echo through the valleys and rivers of this land.”
