RPF of N.F. Railway has successfully detected 210 cases during the year 2018 and Recovered contraband & smuggled goods worth of 6 crores.

Stepping up its drive against smuggling of contraband items through Railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N.F. Railway has successfully detected 210 cases during the year 2018 alongwith recovery of various types of contraband goods.
Contraband materials recovered includes Ganja, Opium, Brown Sugar, Tablets/capsules, Phensidyle, Wine/Liquor, Foreign made Cigarette, Agarwood, Tobacco, Betel Nuts, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Cough Syrup, Foreign Cloths etc. These items were seized during checking at different stations and trains in N.F. Railway.
The approximate value of seized contraband items is around Rs. 5, 82, 21,167/-. Besides, 43 persons were also arrested for their alleged involvement in shipping of contraband items during the year and handed over to GRP for further action as per law.
The recovered items include Foreign made Cigarette worth Rs. 3, 24, 75,562/-, Ganja worth Rs. 1, 26, 96,550/-, Foreign Cloths worth Rs. 12, 00,000/- etc.
It may be mentioned here that during the month of January, 2019 (upto 27.01.2019) RPF was able to recover contraband items worth Rs. 87, 90,314/-.
In one such recent incident, while checking in train No. 55680 Dharmanagar – Agartala Passenger, RPF detected 201 bottles “ESKUF Cough Syrup” of 100 ml each. Further, raid and search was conducted jointly with Local Police of Dharmanagar at Hotel Continental near Dharmangar railway station. The joint search lead to recovery of 335 bottles “ESKUF Cough Syrup” of 100 ml each (Total 536 bottles) with arrest of five persons
The value of the recovered articles is Rs. 56,280/- approx.
In another such case, on 13.01.2019, while checking in train No. 55664 Silchar – Agartala passenger RPF found suspected Ganja weighing about 5 kgs (worth Rs. 30,000/- in one bag and about 25 kgs Agarwood in another bag. Value of the recovered Agarwood is Rs. 2, 50,000/- approx. Total value of recovered articles is Rs. 2, 80,000/- approx.
The recovered Ganja was handed over to OC / GRP / Badarpur and the Agarwood to Forest beat Officer, Badarpurghat for taking appropriate action under relevant laws.
