Five special camps for differently-abled will be organised in coming October in Hailakandi district.
This was decided in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amalendu Roy at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on Thursday.
Organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India association with the district administration, the camps for the differently-abled are being organised under Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) scheme.
On October 22, the camp will be held at Algapur development block, on October 24 at Nazrul Sadan auditorium in Hailakandi town, on October 26 at Lala development block, on 28 October at Nazrul Bhawan in Katlicherra and on October 30 at South Hailakandi development block.
Free aids and appliances like wheel chairs, hearing aids and tricycles will be distributed to the differently-abled persons free of cost. “These camps are coming up due to the special initiative taken by MP, Radheshyam Biswas to provide a healing touch to the people with special needs,”‘ said an official, adding that such camps help to fulfil the customised needs of the differently-abled with different types of disabilities and ensure benefits reach the right hands.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Roy appealed to the differently-abled persons of the district to come forward and attend the camps in their respective areas.
