Assam-based digital creator Bhukhan Pathak has emerged as a global cultural storyteller, using social media to promote Assamese identity across continents through travel and content creation.

GUWAHATI  ( By Prantik Deka )- Emerging from humble beginnings in Barpeta, Assam, digital creator Bhukhan Pathak has carved out a unique space for himself as a cultural storyteller who connects Northeast India with global audiences through social media. Since launching his digital journey in 2016, Pathak has become one of the most recognised Assamese content creators, using platforms such as YouTube and Facebook to showcase the region’s culture, cinema and identity.

Widely known for his channel Assamese Mixture, Pathak is regarded as one of the early pioneers of Assamese-language content creation online. The channel, which features celebrity interviews, entertainment updates and cultural narratives, has built a strong regional audience and currently commands over 11.4 lakh subscribers on YouTube, along with a substantial following on Facebook and Instagram. His work has also earned him the distinction of being among the first Assamese YouTubers to receive the Silver Play Button.

From Local Creator to Cultural Ambassador

Unlike many influencers focused on lifestyle trends, Pathak has positioned himself as a cultural advocate, using travel and storytelling to present Assam’s heritage on the international stage. Supporters describe his journeys as independent cultural missions, often undertaken without institutional backing, aimed at promoting Assamese traditions and identity worldwide.

Over the years, his travels have taken him across continents. During a visit to Russia, Pathak showcased Assamese symbols such as the Gamosa while documenting experiences in cities including Moscow and St. Petersburg. In Siberia’s Yakutsk — known as one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth — he interacted with students at a local school, introducing them to Assam’s tea heritage, Bihu festival and wildlife.

Global Journeys Highlighting Assamese Culture

Pathak’s travel vlogs have extended to Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and the Middle East, where he continued to highlight Assamese traditions in international settings. During the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, he carried the Indian national flag along with the Assamese Gamusa, connecting with members of the Assamese diaspora and showcasing regional culture to a wider audience.

His travels in China explored historical links related to Ahom king Chaolung Sukapha, while also documenting daily life and cultural landscapes. In 2026, Pathak expanded his storytelling to Africa, visiting Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, where he interacted with indigenous communities such as the Maasai, Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. Through music and cultural exchanges, he introduced Assamese songs and traditions to new audiences, reflecting the growing global curiosity about Northeast India.

Observers note that his work often blends travel documentation with cultural diplomacy, presenting regional stories that are rarely highlighted in mainstream media.

Pathak’s digital presence has earned him several recognitions, including awards for excellence in digital content creation and regional influence. His supporters credit his storytelling style — rooted in language, culture and lived experience — for building trust among viewers both within Assam and abroad.

Beyond entertainment, his work reflects a broader trend of regional creators using digital platforms to redefine representation, bridging local narratives with global conversations. Media analysts say such initiatives play a role in shaping cultural identity in the digital age, especially for regions that historically received limited national exposure.

Today, Bhukhan Pathak continues to travel and document stories that connect Assam with the wider world. Through his vlogs and social media engagement, he presents a narrative of cultural pride, resilience and cross-border dialogue — positioning himself not just as a content creator but as a storyteller attempting to carry Assam’s voice beyond geographical boundaries.
