The rally, which was organised by Tangkhul civil society organisations, started from the Khamasom Wallely  locality and ended at the Sihao Khunou Kahaophung Hill, covering a distance of about 4 km.

Later, a public meeting and prayer session were held on the Sihao Khunou ground. During the meeting the Vice president of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Tuisem Kamkara appealed on behalf of the Tangkhul community to both the AR and NSCN (IM) to defuse the situation to bring normalcy.

Addressing the public meeting TSL president Veronica Zingkhai said that thousands have come to participate and show solidarity with the village and which is a sign of support to the ongoing peace process.

The day’s solidarity march was reportedly organised following the apprehension that the standoff between the Assam Rifles and the NSCN (I-M) at Sihai Khunou village, about 40 km north east of Ukhrul since the last few days, could lead to an unwanted situation.

Earlier, the Assam Rifles had alleged that the NSCN (I-M) violated the ceasefire ground rules by establishing “unauthorised camps” in the forest of Sihai Khunou/Khamasom village, according to a press statement released by the PRO, Assam Rifles (South), on Sunday night.

The NSCN (IM) signed the ceasefire agreement in 1997 with the Government of India and the Framework Agreement followed in 2015.
