Woman Arrested with Heroin Worth ₹1.17 Crore in Mizoram Drug Bust
A 51-year-old woman from Manipur was arrested after police recovered 587 grams of heroin concealed in soap cases during a vehicle check in Saitual district.

AIZAWL- In a major anti-narcotics operation, Mizoram Police seized 587 grams of heroin valued at approximately ₹1.17 crore and arrested a woman suspected of trafficking the contraband in Saitual district.
According to police officials, the seizure was made during a random vehicle checking operation conducted by a Special Team of the Saitual District Executive Force (DEF) at Keifang in the early hours of June 1.
The operation led to the interception of a black Bolero Neo bearing registration number MN01AX0569, which was travelling from Churachandpur district in neighbouring Manipur towards Aizawl. The vehicle was stopped at around 3:00 am as part of routine anti-drug surveillance measures.

During the inspection, police grew suspicious of one of the passengers, identified as Nengshi Haokip (51), daughter of Jangsem Haokip and a resident of Salbung in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Officials stated that the search was conducted in accordance with provisions of Section 50 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. After obtaining her consent, authorities carried out the search in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).

A female police constable conducted the examination, during which police recovered 50 soap cases allegedly containing heroin concealed within the woman’s clothing. A subsequent search of her belongings resulted in the seizure of the narcotic substance weighing a total of 587 grams.
Police estimated the market value of the seized heroin at approximately ₹1,17,40,000 in the illicit drug trade. In addition to the narcotics, officers also confiscated a Vivo mobile phone believed to be connected to the trafficking operation.

A case has been registered at Saitual Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Investigators are currently working to determine the source of the heroin, its intended destination and any possible links to larger interstate drug trafficking networks operating in the Northeast region.
Officials noted that Mizoram continues to face challenges related to the transit of narcotics due to its strategic location along regional trafficking routes. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb the movement of illegal drugs through the state.
The latest seizure is being viewed as a significant success in ongoing anti-drug operations and highlights the continued efforts of Mizoram Police to combat organized narcotics trafficking in the region.
