Assam: Bir Chilarai Divas observed in Delhi

The Government of Assam has been celebrating Bir Chilarai Divas since 2005. It also confers the Bir Chilarai Award to individuals for bravery.

NEW DELHI-  Chilarai Divas was celebrated here on Wednesday on the occasion of 515th birth anniversary of the General of the Koch Kingdom, Bir Chilarai.

All the dignitaries paid rich tributes to Bir Chilarai and called him a symbol of valour and strength. “Bir Chilarai was a patriot to the core, full of human values and deep love for nature,” they quipped.

Highlighting the multifaceted personality of Bir Chilarai, including in the field of literature and culture, the speakers underscored the importance of following Chilarai’s ideals by the youths of the state.

The function was attended by several prominent dignitaries including Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, MPs Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Ranjit Dutta, Mission Ranjan Das, Pradan Baruah, Bijuli Kalita Medhi and officials of the state government.

Earlier, the dignitaries offered floral tributes at the portrait of Bir Chilarai.

The function was organised by the Assam Bhawan authorities to honour the legacy of the great warrior and commander of the Koch-Rajbongshi.
