Assam: Controversy Over Viral Audio Clip in Assam Assembly

Assam Assembly Speaker to Refer Viral Audio Clip Issue to Ethics Committee.

GUWAHATI- A heated exchange unfolded in the Assam Legislative Assembly today as CPI(M) MLA from Sorbhog, Manoranjan Talukdar, found himself at the center of a controversy over a viral audio clip.

The audio, which has been widely circulated, allegedly features Talukdar demanding a substantial amount of money from individuals purportedly linked to syndicates.

The issue was brought to the Assembly floor by BJP MLA Manab Deka from Lakhimpur, who raised concerns about the integrity of the legislator.

In a spirited defense, Talukdar dismissed the allegations as baseless, claiming the audio was likely fabricated using artificial intelligence. “If anyone can prove this is my voice and my involvement, I will resign from politics immediately,” he declared during the session.

The CPI(M) legislator challenged the authenticity of the recording, urging a thorough investigation into its origins.

Presiding over the proceedings, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary responded by assuring the House that the matter would not be ignored. He announced that the issue would be taken up in the next session of the Assembly and referred to the Ethics Committee for detailed deliberation.

The controversy has sparked debate both inside and outside the Assembly, with political observers watching closely to see how the Ethics Committee will handle this high-profile case.
