Assam Election: PM Modi Visits Tea Garden, Plucks Leaves
PM Modi visits tea estate in Assam, calls workers the “soul of Assam,” distributes land pattas and announces major development projects.

DIBRUGARH- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh, where he interacted with tea garden workers and highlighted their role in shaping Assam’s identity and economy.
During the visit, the Prime Minister spent time with workers, including women engaged in plucking tea leaves. Wearing a traditional Assamese gamosa, he participated in tea plucking using a wicker basket, a gesture that drew attention to the region’s cultural and economic heritage.
Addressing members of the tea tribe community, Modi referred to tea workers as the “soul of Assam” and acknowledged their contribution to the country’s global tea industry. He also drew a personal connection to his early life, referencing his past experience associated with tea.

He spent nearly half an hour with the workers, listening to their stories, discussing issues like education, healthcare, and wages, and sharing cultural moments. The women welcomed him with a devotional folk song, talked about their traditions, and even took selfies with him — moments PM Modi later described as “very memorable.”
Sharing photos from the visit on social media, PM Modi wrote: “Tea is the soul of Assam! The tea from here has made its way across the world. This morning in Dibrugarh, I went to a tea garden and interacted with women working here. It was a very memorable experience.”

He added: “The plucking of tea leaves was followed by the women talking about their culture and of course, a selfie!” In another post, he praised the community:
“We are very proud of the efforts of each and every tea garden family. Their hard work and perseverance have enhanced Assam’s pride.”
Following the tea garden visit, PM Modi proceeded to address two major public rallies in Assam’s North Bank region as part of the BJP’s election campaign. He is scheduled to speak in Gogamukh (Dhemaji district) and another rally in the Behali/Biswanath area. In his addresses, the Prime Minister launched the party’s poll campaign, predicting a “hat-trick” victory for the BJP and accusing the Congress of planning laws that would “protect infiltrators.”

The visit comes days before the Assam Assembly polls, with tea garden workers — a significant voting community influencing dozens of seats — being a key focus of outreach. PM Modi’s hands-on engagement in the fields underscored the government’s emphasis on the welfare and recognition of the tea tribes, who form a vital part of Assam’s economy and culture.
The Prime Minister’s Assam visit highlights the BJP’s “double-engine” governance narrative and continued focus on Northeast development, even as the state gears up for elections.
